"The MORE that you READ, the more THINGS you will KNOW. The MORE you LEARN, the more PLACES you'll GO!"
~ Dr. Seuss
In kindergarten, we spend most of our morning focusing on phonemic awareness and beginning reading skills. This time is spent in both a large group setting and with small group instruction. This format allows us to focus on phonemic awareness skills, phonics, letter recognition, sight word development, and writing.
To support our reading program, Mrs. Cave, our reading specialist, works with chosen students for additional practice. Because reading is a priority at Central Elementary, all kindergarten children will have regularly scheduled Central Elementary library times and periodic visits to the Public Library. It is my expectation that you spend time reading with and listening to your child read on a regular basis.
